2022.01.20 16:13 ierazo [OC] Position 6: Consensus Ranking for Players by our sub

Hello all, in this series our community to creates a consensus-based ranking for the top nba players.
The procedure will be as follows: each day I will post a google form link with 7 players to be ranked out. The player with lowest average ranking (best) will get the position that is being disputed. The worst player will not enter the evaluation next day. This implies 2 new players should enter the new poll the next day, and those 2 players will correspond to the 2 comments with more positive karma in this post.
Actual Ranking (Poll results)

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (2.14 average ranking, 44.8% 1st place, 105 voters)
  2. Kevin Durant (2.07 average ranking, 39.4% 1st place, 99 voters)
  3. Nikola Jokic (2.14 average ranking, 24.4% 1st place, 59 voters)
  4. LeBron James (1.91 average ranking, 51.0% 1st place, 98 voters)
  5. Stephen Curry (2.03 average ranking, 45.5% 1st place, 99 voters)
During the last poll Bol Bol was last so he won't be in this poll, but Anthony Davis and Damian Lillard join us. Today we seek the 6th best NBA player, and the link is: https://forms.gle/6mkvrF6FtrogevqRA
Also, feel free to post names of players below so we select the next 2 to enter the voting. Please keep in mind that democracy will win, unless it is a trolling attempt, in which case I may consider not listening to the most voted suggestion (example: Bol Bol)

2022.01.20 16:13 CryptographerFast479 Vital Wheat Gluten as a primary protein source

Quick background - I'm new to vegan life - still early early transition - and my primary protein sources were non-vegan prior (eggs, whey, meat etc.) .
I've been researching on vegan protein sources, and I came across vital wheat gluten.
I also love cooking a LOT - so I learnt how to do a LOT with this ingredient (planning on making noodles with them next)
But - is it healthy to have this as a primary protein source? I do not have Celiac disease, but dont think Gluten was really a significant part of my diet before. I of course had/have bread and other items.
Like, is having around 100g of this a day a bad idea? (~75g protein I think for this - 3/4cups of the stuff)
Additonal context - My calorie intake a day is ~1650, and need about 150g protein a day.

2022.01.20 16:13 NabbyH [OC] Everyone agrees, Tuchel should be given the same amount of time as Pep and Klopp to engrain his philosophy into the squad... but what is his philosophy?

Need for a Concise Philosophy
I think Tuchel is without a doubt a top 5 manager in football at the moment, but one thing I think is missing is that we're not aware really of what his footballing philosophy is. With Pep and Klopp I think the symphony vs rock and roll analogy is perfect because its very simple for the players, fans, and media to understand. While fans and media don't understand all the patterns that go into it, we all understand what "rock and roll" or "orchestral" football looks like, and we can tell when the players are not adhering to the philosophy. Obviously Tuchel will have his own philosophy but I do think it's important that his philosophy is concise and that it can be easily communicated. This will help to set a standard at the club that cannot be disturbed by individuals. For example Pep has made it clear to some legendary players like Ronaldinho, Zlatan and Aguero that if you don't play quick technical football or as part of the "symphony" that you won't play.

What is Tuchel's philosophy?
I think Tuchel is heavily influenced by a few key figures from his career and he tries to combine those influences to create his own philosophy. Those figures are German football namely Rangnick and Klopp, his time at Mainz forcing him to be pragmatic, and lastly his admiration for Pep and his legendary Barca team.

  1. German Influence and the Counterpress The most clear improvement we saw from the first game with Tuchel in charge was that we were set up to counterpress hard whenever we lost the ball to force turnovers or to force our opponent to go long. The front 5 and 2 DMs would all collapse around the ball when we lost it and our CBs would occupy the 3 channels that long balls would be sent to. This improved our possession stats and greatly reduced the number of chances we concede in a match. While we were great at sitting back in a 5 and defending deep when needed, this is not the reason we concede so few goals under Tuchel. That was a direct result of us snuffing out our opponents attack much higher up the pitch, usually in the form of ball recoveries by our CBs from forced long balls into the channels.
  2. Pep's Barcelona's Influence Tuchel has said before that he watched every single game Pep's Barca played because he was so in love with their football. Mainly i think what he took from those teams were firstly how to be in complete control of a game and secondly patience in attack. So often with the Barca team we would just see the field completely tilted in one direction with 1-2s being completed all around the edge of the box until the smallest opening was found leading to a simple finish(they scored tons of tap ins). We see in Tuchel's teams that when we win the ball back, we don't attack instantly the same way a Klopp or Rangnick team does, we recycle the ball and get back into our rhythm and try to break them down again. We are very patient in our buildup, and in theory this should lead to fewer but higher quality chances.
  3. Mainz Pragmatism and being a Chameleon At Mainz Tuchel was working with a squad with much less quality compared to most opponents in the Bundesliga. This forced him to be more creative with tactical setup as they needed to find the edge elsewhere. He got a reputation as a tactical chameleon because of this and we've seen instances of this throughout his Chelsea stint, one example is last years 1-0 vs Liverpool, we played way more longballs in this game compared to our other fixture creating the Mount goal and Timo's disallowed goal, this was not a part of our game under Tuchel before this fixture. We also saw it recently with the switch to a 4-4-2 in attack and 5-3-2 in defence with Ziyech at rwb. Also the way he has tried to get Lukaku more involved by playing him in a 2 and defending slightly deeper to get more balls facing the goal is another example.
So in summary we see Tuchel play a system that is heavily focused on ending opponent attacks quickly and winning the ball back in their half. Once we have it back we have patient build up play that prioritizes short passes from side to side creating overloads just outside the box(usually on the right side) that in theory should lead to high quality chances with multiple players inside the box. Tuchel will change tactics to the opposition against elite teams as he is a realist but he clearly prefers to play the same way every game if it were possible.
Contradictions in Philosophy
All of his experiences in football, including non-footballing lessons learned at PSG, have turned Tuchel into a world class manager but the problem at times is that these influences can contradict each other.
  1. Counterpressing only leads to high quality chances if you attack as soon as you win the ball back. We counterpress to win the ball back but then take a patient approach in chance creation.
  2. Total game control and patient chance creation require highly technical players in all areas of the pitch but very key players for us don't fit this mold such as Kante, Lukaku and Werner.
  3. If he wants to have a long term project where he engrains his philosophy into the squad, changing his tactics too frequently or being too pragmatic may undermine his own ideal way of playing.
At face value Tuchel is the most intelligent manager i've seen coach us and I think he can manage all of these contradictions while still having a clear idea of how he wants the team to play on any given day. But I think the players, fans and media will have more trouble managing that and this can cause performances like we've seen in recent weeks where we don't look like we have a clue and this leads to a fan and media frenzy.
Solution
Tuchel must pick a concise philosophy and recruitment characteristics must be crystal clear to fit the philosophy. Tuchel needs to pick what current players fit and don't fit, and determine who has the potential to be improved and molded into his philosophy. All outgoings and ingoings need to be with the philosophy in mind. For example, City only recruits highly technical footballers with great feet, liverpool recruits high intensity players only, right now I don't know what our strategy is for recruitment. Right now we have a mix of high intensity players, counter-attack players, and a few technical players, but our manager's philosophy seems to lean more to technical needs.
I have a lot faith that Tuchel and Petr Cech can work together to imprint a modern football philosophy across the entire club but there is a long way to go before that is a reality. And there will be multiple points along the way where the club will need to show faith and loyalty to the manager that it has failed to show in the past.
Interested in hearing your thoughts on this write up.
TLDR: Please take the time to read the whole thing if you can but...
Tuchel's management is a combination of multiple philosophies and we currently lack a true vision for the players, fans and media to identify with. Once we determine what this is we need to align our recruitment with the defined vision over a prolonged period. The club needs to show faith and loyalty that it has not been able to do in the past.
